Foothills County Councillor
MY PRIORITIES

THE COMING TERM
Here are the big items I will address in the coming term:

TAXES
This is not a one term item, but a constant and ongoing issue. There is no magic formula to address rising taxes, but I believe we must be prudent and watch every dollar, taking a conservative approach, planning for the future, and enhancing economic development in our industrial and commercial corridors. We need to push back against provincial downloading as it appears that the education requisition from the province will take another massive jump next year.

COMMUNITY
Community spaces are a vital part of what brings us together. Whether it's halls, parks, green spaces, the arena, or a visit in the middle of the road, these places are important and valued. The County contributes significantly through recreation boards and directly to individual items, yet often not equally. We need to address the disparity in where the recreation funds are going.
DEVELOPMENT
Developments have been a big item of debate as of late. Whether it’s massive 4000 home shock towns, small acreage developments or massive green energy projects, we must start protecting our food production capacity. Farmland needs to be preserved. While housing is needed, it should be built as an extension of existing towns and hamlets or infills where servicing and transportation networks are already in place. Over this next term, the county will be reviewing and revising the MDP (municipal development plan) which is the guiding document for development. I look forward to hearing from residents about what you see as the future of Foothills County as it relates to the MDP.
ENGAGEMENT
Your views matter and must be heard. With so few people getting the local newspaper anymore the county needs to adjust public notice procedures. As a councillor I want you to know what’s going on and I want to know your perspective.
THANK YOU
To My Foothills Neighbours
Thank you the privilege of serving you for the past four years serving as your councillor. I look forward to representing you again, where, together, we can continue to build a strong future.
